Job Description:   

The Sterilization Technician is responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing, sterilization, storage and distribution of the Central Sterilization and Supply Department's sterile goods.

• Collection, cleaning, assembly, packaging and disinfection or sterilization of instruments and hollowware.  

• Reporting any breakages or faulty equipment to representative or staff supervisor, ensuring the department functions safely and efficiently at all times.  

• Keep work areas tidy, clean and restocked.

• Responsible for store/departmental complaints. 

• Responsible for maintenance, repair of all high power electrical and mechanical machines. 

• Responsible for duty arrangement of duties/call duties etc.

• Knowledge of reusable surgical instrumentation, micro surgical instrumentation, and power equipment. 

• Knowledge and operation of sterile processing equipment (washers, steam, gas, ultrasonic and chemical sterilizers) and to chose the appropriate method of sterilization for particular equipment or supplies.

• Knowledge of cleaning of patient care equipment including but not limited to IV pumps, PCAs, CPM machines, Pneumatic pumps, hypo/hyperthermia units. 

• Perform simple maintenance on equipment (i.e.: clean filters and drains). 

• Prepare trays for designated areas according to policies and procedures. 

• Document and maintain inventory of supplies and materials.

• Assist in preparation of pre-op and post-op area with regards to CSSD material / Equipments.

• Operate and maintain steam autoclaves, keeping records of loads completed, items in loads, and maintenance procedures performed. 

• Document and maintain accurate sterilization records. Inspect, assemble and test general and specialty instrumentation for proper functioning. 

• Monitor and maintain appropriate records to remain compliant with applicable regulatory agencies, as well as reporting occurrences immediately to supervisors.

Qualification: CMLT / DMLT / Bsc relevant in Medical Laboratory Technology
